Laelia - Regular

This page includes all regular (not selected for shape or color, etc...) Laelia species, Brazilian or exotic.

Laelia bahiensis

A species that is difficult to find in cultivation. It is related to Laelia crispata (flava), but the flowers are smaller and frequently more in orange-yellow tones with orange fringing on the lip.

2" - 15.00

Laelia briegeri

Probably the nicest of the "rupiculous laelias" in shape, the species produces gorgeous bright yellow flowers. Tall flower spikes nicely display the several 2" flowers.

FS - 15.00

Laelia caulescens (crispilabia)

One of the showiest species of rupicolous laelias with pink to magenta flowers. Flowers are about 2" and produced on long inflorescences. As with most of the species in the group, high light is a necessity for good blooming.

FS - 15.00

Laelia cinnabarina (cowanii)

The largest flowered of the so-called "rupiculous laelias". Flowers are usually about 3" across (sometimes more) and produced on long, upright spikes. Color varies from orange to orange-red, and sometimes the lips are veined with red. Intermediate growers. This is the form called on the trade as "cowanii", an incorrect but well-known name.

3" (FS) - 20.00

Laelia fidelensis

Very rare Brazilian species. Medium-sized (around 3") delicate pink flowers that are produced 1-2 (rarely 3) on a fairly long inflorescence. Intermediate growers.

3" - 20.00

Laelia grandis

A lesser known species in the Cattleyodes section, this is the warmest growing in the group. Flowers are about 4" to 5" across, and produced 3-6 on the inflorescence. Light conditions typical for the group, that is, high intensity. It is sometimes confused with Laelia. tenebrosa.

FS - 25.00

Laelia pabstii

Very similar to Laelia caulescens, but flowers are slightly smaller and darker. he species is sometimes knows in the trade as Laelia mantiqueirae.

NFS - 15.00

Laelia praestans

The Hadrolaelia species that produces the best shaped flowers, L. praestans should be grown the same way as L. pumila and L. dayana. Flowers about 4" to 5" across.

34" (FS) - 20.00

Laelia tereticaulis

Very similar to Laelia rupestris, L. tereticaulis produces flowers of equivalent size, but essentially the lip is different being darker at the frontlobe and with a narrower isthmus. Plant are essentially similar, but they tend to be taller and with longer inflorescences.
