Laelia alvaroana is very interesting species. It is very similar to Laelia bahiensis, but scaled-down. Plants are smaller and so are the flowers (about 1" across) but the most interesting thing is that it occurs in Rio de Janeiro state. This way two species that are so similar occur on opposite extremes of the rupicolous laelias distribution renge and there are no similar species in between.
